Purdue Diversity Highlight: Meet Dr. Julio Ramirez, Director of the Purdue Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) Center

The Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation Center conducts research and develops innovations to reduce the impact of seismic disasters. It encourages students of all ages to consider study in science and engineering and if they are already on that path, offer tools, knowledge, opportunity and experiences to succeed.

Julio A. Ramirez, Ph.D.- NEES Operations Director & NEEScomm Center Director,

Julio Ramirez, Ph.D. has served as NEES network director since October 2009 after Purdue University was awarded the opportunity to lead the project. Prior to this role, Ramirez served as assistant head for graduate programs for Purdue University’s School of Civil Engineering and continues to serve as professor of civil engineering for Purdue.

He earned his BSCE degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, his MSCE from the University of Texas at El Paso and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Ramirez is chair of the Committee on Concrete and Masonry Structures of the ASCE/SEI. He has been a member of several National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) research panels and has served in NSF proposal review panels for several directorates.
